POSH Awareness and Implementation – A welcome initiative by ACT

Sexual Harassment at Workplace is one of the most shocking acts affecting numerous working women in corporate India. It is a harsh reality that has been plaguing women since they started going out for work. It has been also found in studies that women are more likely harassed by people whom they know. To combat this highly repulsive behaviour, The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 ("POSH Act") was passed to provide women with a safe workplace and protect them from sexual harassment/inappropriate behaviour at their workplaces considered to be a milestone in the Indian political history.

As you all must be aware that Asian College of Teachers (ACT) has taken a great initiative to make its employees familiar of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act with the help of its POSH consultant, Mr. S. K. Chakraborty. Mr. Chakraborty has already conducted an awareness session on the issue, where he threw light on the subject as well as on the Prevention Act. With the help of flipcharts, he discussed in details about sexual harassment and its nature and the incidents that led to the formulation and passing of the Act and how important it is to create a safe working place for all women employees, without any discrimination. Post discussion, Mr. Chakraborty answered all doubts and queries posed by the ACT employees. The session was held in ACT’s Kolkata Office and was attended by all employees present there. Employees of other branches attended the session virtually via Skype.

ACT as an internationally recognized teacher training institute has always tried to uphold its employees’ rights and dignity and therefore it comes as no surprise that the organization has moved a step ahead into establishing itself as a firm believer of women empowerment by implementing this much needed Act!
