ACT Asia Symposium in Kolkata was a meeting point to share and discuss ideas about Holistic Learning

The Asia Symposium on Holistic Learning, Effective Lesson Planning and Authentic Assessment held in Kolkata on 8th February at Radisson Ballygunge Kolkata provided a great platform for both aspiring and working teachers, educators and educational leaders and was an opportunity to meet, share ideas and best practices.

The day kickstarted with the presentation by Ms. Debjani Mitra, Academic Head, Asian College of Teachers on Holistic Learning keeping in sync with the theme of the symposium. The event also featured presentations by Dr Mala (Dasgupta) Sengupta, Edupreneur and Associate Academic Director, Asian College of Teachers who spoke on Motivation and Education emphasizing the importance of motivation. This was followed by an interesting presentation by Dr Yogesh Maheswari, Principal, Mount Litera Zee School, Contai who discussed the varied ways to explore Mathematics and how holistic approach can actually make Math interesting for all learners. The first half of the session was rounded off with a presentation on a pertinent topic by Ms. Abja Adhikari, Education Consultant & Former Vice-principal, Ashok Hall School who beautifully explained the ‘Role of Today’s Teachers’ citing examples from her own experiences as a teacher.

The second half saw an in-depth presentation on Effective Lesson Planning and Authentic Assessment by the keynote speaker of the Symposium Dr Margaret Davitt Maughan, Associate Academic Director, USA, Asian College of Teachers. The Dean of Asian College of Teachers, Dr Sanjib Chakraborty addressed the different queries of the participants and interacted with them in the afternoon discussing about the varied teaching opportunities and growth. This was followed by the much-awaited Convocation ceremony where ACT Graduates were felicitated.
