An Insightful Symposium 2020 on Holistic Learning, Effective Lesson Planning and Authentic Assessment

There is no room for denial of the fact that the teacher plays one of the most important roles for student’s overall development in all the spheres. With the onset of new academic session, the internationally well-known teacher training organization Asian College of Teachers organized a series of symposiums in its 3 rd year in five major cities of India - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad. While the upcoming symposium is being scheduled to be taken place in Bangkok on 29th February 2020. This year the theme of the symposium is \"Holistic Learning, Effective Lesson Planning and Authentic Assessment\". Symposium 2020 in India was executed along with convocation ceremony to celebrate the triumphs of all its graduates. Not only does it
celebrate the success of its students this event also became a platform for all the eminent educationists across the country to share the stage where they exchanged and shared their best practices on Holistic Learning, Effective Lesson Planning and Authentic Assessment which are the key elements for an overall progress of a student. The event thus became an exchange forum for the entire teaching community to put forward their respective views and experiences while building tomorrow’s global educators.

Dr. Margaret Davitt Maughan from the USA, a noted global educator and also the Associate Academic Director of the institute marked the occasion with her gracious presence, her insights on effective assessments parameters, differentiated learning and the theory of Hemispheric Dominance gave a fair idea on the different levels of learners and what should be a teacher’s approach while dealing with them in this 21st century teaching-learning practice.

Few other noted industry experts who graced the event with their presence were Ms. Abja Adhikari who is the Educational Consultant & Former Vice-principal, Ashok Hall from Kolkata, enlightened all the attendees on role of 21 st Century Teacher, how reverse mentoring and Quality Circle Training Classes can actually bring a positive attitude among the learners. Dr. N Panchanatham who is the Vice-chancellor, Teacher Education University, Mr. T K Arunachalam who is the Regional Director Cambridge Assessment English (Part of the University of Cambridge) Ms. Uma Raman who is the Consultant with Cambridge Assessment India & Master Trainer and Examiner trainer for Cambridge ESOL Examinations all from Chennai laid the emphasis and shared the best practices on Holistic Learning.

Dr. Ranjini Krishnaswamy (Mumbai) Director - Education for the Dosti group, Dr Anita Jain Child Health Consultant and Founder, First to Aid, from Mumbai and Ms. Afshan Urooj, English and Business Studies HOD, Solitaire Global Schools from Hyderabad were among others to share their views and approach on Holistic Development, components of effective assessment along with the importance of Child Safety and First aid for Teachers.

While all the experts put forward their opinion towards the different significant methods and techniques, Dr. Sanjib Chakarborty CEO, Asian College of Teachers who touched on how is the job scenario in the global market and what are the upcoming opportunities that the aspiring teachers and trainers can look for and how they can make themselves ready for the global market.

All these aspects will help in paving the way for the existing and the aspiring teaching professionals for a better teaching-learning prospect. An event like this always helps to gain a better insight by connecting the learners where they can explore the new avenues for their career goals and aspirations.
