ACTs Live Session on Assessment was a Great Learning Experience for the Participants

Asian College of Teachers successfully conducted a live online seminar on ‘Assessment for/as learning: But . . .are they learning?’ which was facilitated by an international educator, Dr Thomas James Miller (Doctorate of Philosophy in Education, Educational Administration, Theory and Policy Studies from the University of Toronto) on 7th November, 2021. Dr Miller is a passionate educator who has achieved exemplary success demonstrated in multicultural contexts gained from having worked on 5 continents.
The interactive session dealt with the pertinent topic of assessment – an area crucial for teachers and trainers shedding light on various aspects related to it. The trainees gained an in-depth knowledge on assessment which has a major role to play in the process of teaching and learning. Dr Miller discussed the importance of assessment that aids in understanding student learning, identifies invisible obstacles and helps to enhance the teaching process. Apart from benefitting the learners, comprehension of assessment is also advantageous for the 21st century teachers as well. The topics covered in the session included crucial and relatable issues like difference between assessment and evaluation, Formative Assessment, Summative Assessment etc.
The participants got an insight into how to create a well-designed assessment which adds to their upgradation and development as effective teachers. Institutions around the world look for teaching professionals with the right skills, upgraded knowledge and pedagogical approaches who can address and deal with learners and support them in ways that contribute to their continuous growth.
