Asian College of Teachers Conducts Teaching Practice at Vivekananda Vidyapith School

Asian College of Teachers (ACT) organized a comprehensive teaching practice session at Vivekananda Vidyapith School, aimed at providing hands-on experience to its TEFL trainees. The teaching practice took place over two days, on the 19th and 20th of February 2024, and involved a mixed group of students ranging from 7 to 12 years old, covering grades 5th to 7th.
ACT trainees actively participated in the teaching practice, showcasing their acquired skills and knowledge from the program. The session focused on both receptive and productive skills of language learning, with emphasis on listening, speaking, reading, and writing lesson strategies. The topics covered were age and level-specific, ensuring relevance and engagement for the students.
Throughout the teaching practice, the trainees successfully executed various teaching methodologies, including warm-up activities, context setting, and interactive learning exercises, in line with TEFL terminologies. The session objectives were effectively met on both days, contributing to a fulfilling learning experience for both the trainees and the learners.
Feedback from the TEFL trainees highlighted the invaluable nature of the teaching practice. For most of the trainees, especially freshers with limited real-time teaching experience, the session served as an eye-opener, providing insights into classroom management, student interaction, and the nuances of successful teaching beyond subject matter expertise. Despite the challenges, the trainees expressed satisfaction in witnessing the students’ enjoyment and engagement throughout the sessions.
The teaching practice experience was considered a significant addition to the trainees' professional development, with potential implications for future placement opportunities. The trainees acknowledged the importance of such practical experiences in shaping their teaching skills and expressed gratitude towards ACT for facilitating the successful execution of the teaching practice sessions.
