ACT Hosted an Insightful Facebook Live Session on Individualized Education Program

Asian College of Teachers (ACT) hosted an enlightening Facebook live session on the ‘Individualized Education Program (IEP) as the Foundation of Special Education' on 30th May 2024. The session featured Dr. Mrs. Rita James, a distinguished special educator and therapist with over 30 years of experience working with special needs children. The session explored the profound impact and significance of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), delving into their definitions and how they work to individualize education for diverse learners. It emphasized the critical role of parental involvement in the IEP process and included real-life case studies from Dr. James' extensive experience. The discussion highlighted how educators collaborate to assess a learner's needs and set goals using IEPs, showcasing the collaborative effort required for effective implementation.

Additionally, the session addressed how technology can assist learners with various disabilities and provided practical advice for instructors and educators to start each day with enthusiasm and zeal. The importance of maintaining the correct attitude when working with special needs learners was also underscored. Overall, the live session proved to be a valuable resource for both aspiring and working educators, unveiling the significance of IEPs in catering to learners with unique learning needs.

Dr. James holds a B.Sc. and B.Ed. from Delhi University and specialized in teaching the hearing impaired at T.T.U., Chattanooga, USA. Her advanced qualifications include a Diploma in Education for Special Needs from the British Open University, vocational training from the Rehabilitation Council of India, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy from Banjara Academy, Bangalore. A certified Intel Master Trainer, she also holds an honorary Ph.D. in Social Work from the Academy of Universal Global Peace. Dr. James has received the Bharat Gaurav Puraskar from the KTK Foundation and an Appreciation Award from Banjara Academy. She has trained numerous interns in child psychology, speech and language, and special education, significantly contributing to the field.
