Asian College of Teachers (ACT) conducted an engaging Facebook live session on November 26, 2024, featuring Sridatri Goswami, an alumnus of ACT. The session, titled ‘Teaching Career Success in Thailand’, provided aspiring educators with valuable insights into pursuing a rewarding teaching career in Thailand.
Sridatri Goswami, a graduate of ACT’s TEFL program and currently an English Communication teacher at Montfort College in Chiang Mai, shared her inspiring journey. Starting as a content writer and education consultant, she transitioned into teaching after completing ACT’s TEFL program. She candidly discussed the challenges she faced while job hunting and highlighted the critical role of a well-prepared introductory video in securing interviews. During the session, Sridatri offered a glimpse into Thai culture, emphasizing the respect foreign teachers receive and the country’s helpful environment for educators. She discussed the practical aspects of teaching in Thailand, such as obtaining a teaching license, which can extend visa privileges, and the varied approaches institutes take toward accommodation and salary. She answered questions from the viewers and advised them to use job portals, agencies, and Facebook groups to explore opportunities, while noting that September, October, November, and March are the best months to apply.
Sridatri also addressed common questions posed by recruiters, such as adapting to a new culture, managing accommodations, and handling classroom scenarios. She provided valuable tips on navigating cultural differences, describing them as unique but manageable with dedication and adaptability.
The session concluded with a live Q&A, during which she shared advice on adjusting to life abroad and succeeding in the teaching field.
